About Us

In 1998/1999 we began as an educational and social research company.

In 2000 we shifted our emphasis to educational research and consulting - specialializing in student motivation and engagement.

At this time we worked closely with Dr Andrew Martin to develop assessment and workbook tools to assess and enhance students' academic motivation and engagement.

This led to the development of the Motivation and Engagement Wheel - a framework that captures the 11 'good' (eg. self-belief), 'bad' (eg. anxiety), and 'ugly' (eg. disengagement) factors of student motivation and engagement.

Based on this 11-factor framework, Dr Martin developed and validated the Motivation and Engagement Scale (MES) to assess students' motivation and engagement. He also developed the Motivation and Engagement Workbook that students can work on to improve their motivation and engagement. Dr Martin continues to maintain and update the MES and the Workbook.

At first the MES and Workbook were for high school students - but soon after, junior (primary/elementary) school and university/college versions were developed.

Following this, work, sport, and music (creative/performing arts) versions of the MES were developed to assess motivation and engagement in diverse areas of human performance.

Alongside the development of the MES and Workbook, motivation books for parents, teachers, psychologists and counselors were written by Dr Martin and published by top publishing houses (Bantam; Continuum) - and subsequently translated into other languages.

Also during this time, Lifelong has been very active in delivering professional development for teachers, parent seminars, student workshops, and conference keynotes focusing on students' academic development. Lifelong is delighted to retain the services of Dr Martin as Presenter.

Today (13 years on!), Lifelong is supplying the 13th Edition of the Motivation and Engagement Scale - and the 13th Edition of the Motivation and Engagement Workbook. Lifelong also continues to disseminate motivation books for those involved in supporting students' academic development and delivers (with Dr Martin) evidence-based and practical presentations, workshops and seminars to school staff, parents, students, psychologists and counselors.

We look forward to another 13 years dedicated to enhancing the potential of students, employees, sportspeople, and creative/performing artists!
